Hetty’s Stew :)

photomania-5e1617c9741dc0072fef43c55cf53b0cToday I went through the kitchen cabinets, trying to find out what I could make for dinner. We had some ground beef in the fridge, canned corn in the cabinets, we had some mushrooms, creme fraiche, and a pasta sauce mix, I even found some onions. So I decided to try and make something out of what I found and serve it with rice. I had no idea how this would turn out in the end.To my big surprise it was actually pretty good. I’ve tasted a lot better but I’ve tasted a lot worse too. It was in fact a lot better than the stew-mixing packs you buy at the grocery store. ( This reminds me of a dish my grandmother used to make for us all the time when I grew up. Mt inspiration for this recipe I made came from the recipe my grandmother used to use.)

400 g Ground beef

1 Onion

250 g Mushrooms (Champignons)

1 Box of canned corn

1 Pack of tomato pasta sauce mix (  ( Mine said to blend the mixing powder into the ground beef, and add 4,5 dl water. try to find something similar if possible.)

1 Box of creme fraiche,

Dried basil

Dried Oregano

Freshly chopped lemon thyme

Tuscan spice mix

Chili flakes

Paprika spice

1 Clove of minced garlic

How to make Hetty’s ground beef stew:

( cook the rice as written on the label.)

First chop up some onions, and slice up the mushrooms. Throw them into a skillet with some butter. season with Tuscan spice mix, chili flakes, pepper, basil and oregano. Then let it simmer until it got a golden color. Pour the onion and mushrooms into a bowl and put it aside for now. Then throw some butter into the same skillet, and cook the ground beef, season with paprika, pepper, chopped lemon thyme, chili flakes, oregano, basil and 1 clove of minced garlic. Let it simmer until the meat is cooked and have a good brown, golden color. Then add the cooked ground beef into a large saucepan, add the pasta sauce mix. ( Mine said to blend the mixing powder into the ground beef, and add 4,5 dl water. try to find something similar if possible.)I let it boil for about 10 minutes.  Then I add the mushrooms and onions, I let it cook for about 4-5 more minutes before I add the canned corn and box of  creme fraiche, i mix it well together before letting it cook for another 5-8 minutes.

I choose to serve this dish with rice, and it was a perfect match. ” Love at first site!”

I’m for sure going to make this dish again, and I was lucky that it turned out as good as it did. This is far from expensive to make, and it’s super easy to cook as well. This is a dish I made throwing together ingredients I found in my kitchen with a hint of inspiration from my grandmothers recipe for stew. It’s a low budget meal! I normally have budget each day on what I can use to make a dish, and if I were to buy the ingredients to this dish on my budget I would still afford it. As I said, It’s a low budget meal.
