This is a dish I used to make all the time a few years ago. My mom first started making this dish after a our tip to Tuscany. My mom got inspired and made her own marinara sauce, it’s tasty, really simple to make and even though it takes some time to cook it’s definitely worth it. IF you have any leftover you can freeze it don to another rainy day. You never know when you might be in need for some really good comfort-food. I just found this old recipe, I’ve been looking for it for a while now, and I finally found it again, and I’m really happy I did. I hope you like it as much as we do!
500 g Ground-beef
2 Twigs of celery
2 Box of canned crushed tomatoes
1 box of tomato paste. ( 140 g )
Tuscan spice mix
Chili explosion spice mix (optional)
How to make Hetty’s family marinara sauce;
- Start by cooking the ground-beef in a skillet with a dash of butter. Season with pepper, dried basil, dried oregano, some chili flakes( chili explosion spice mix) and some Tuscan spice mix. When the ground-beef is cooked, and have a nice brown color, put it aside until further notice.
- Wash the celery and the carrots. Peel the carrot, and the onion and cut the onion, celery and carrots into dices. pour some olive oil into a casserole pan. When the pan is hot, add the chopped vegetables. Let it cook/simmer for about 5 minutes on medium/high heat or until the onions get a golden color. Turn down the heat to medium, and add the two cans of crushed tomatoes and the box of tomato paste. Stair it all well together and add the ground-beef you cooked earlier. When everything starts to boil, turned down the heat to low, put on a lid and let it cook for about 1,5 hours. Remember to stair every once in a while so it doesn’t burn. You can add a little olive oil so doesn’t burn that easy.
- While the sauce is cooking, make some pasta so it’s ready about the same time that the sauce is ready. You can mix the pasta in with the sauce in the casserole pan or you can mix it together in a serving bowl what ever you prefer. Garnish with some fresh leafs of bail on top to give it a fresh look.
I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as my family and I do.
