Hetty’s Tuscan Marinara Sauce Recipe

Today I’ve been making Pasta marinara sauce with ground beef. A recipe that originate from Tuscany, Italy. When I first went to Tuscany many years ago, it really opened my mind to a whole no level when it comes to food. the flavors, the ingredients, the way of cooking. This recipe I now want to share with you comes from my beloved Grandmother who loved Italy and she often traveled there. She brought the Italian cuisine into our home, when my mom was still a kid. This recipe I’m now going to share with you is the very same recipe that my grandmother picked up many years ago on her travels to Italy.

(Serves 3-4 people)

Ingredients:

500-600 g of ground beef

2 boxes of canned tomatoes

150 g tomato paste

3 sticks of celery

1 large onion

2 large carrots

Extra virgin olive oil

Butter

Salt

Pepper

Tuscan spice blend

All around spice blend

chili flakes

4 cloves of garlic

fresh parsley

Oregano

Basil

1 teaspoon of powdered dark broth

Pasta of your choice

1 box of canned mushrooms

Grated Parmesan ( optional)

How to make Hetty’s family marinara sauce with ground beef;

 

  1. Start by washing the vegetables, then finally chop up the carrots, celery and onion. Add a good amount of olive oil into a pot, when the oil starts to heat up add the vegetables into the pot. Finally chop up  3 clove of garlic and add them into the pot. season with salt and pepper.
  2.  Cook the ground beef in a skillet with some butter. Add one minced clove of garlic. Season with basil oregano, all around spice blend, Tuscan spice mix bled, pepper and chili flakes. When the meat reached a golden color, are properly cooked through and the vegetables have been sauteing inn the olive oil for about 10 minutes add the meat into the pot and mix it in with the vegetables and let it cook for additionally 5 minutes.
  3. Add the 2 cans of tomatoes, the tomato paste, the canned mushrooms and mix it all well together. Let it cook for about 20 minutes, then add one teaspoon of dark powdered broth. Then let ti cook for additionally 35 minutes.

 

Serve it up with some pasta, chose the type of pasta you like the most, I tend to use gnocci or spaghetti. I do like to serve this dish with some bread on the side. Nothing is better than to eat pasta with a good garlic bread on the side. If you like a little more edge you can sprinkle some Parmesan over the top before serving.
