Saturday, and to be honest it’s been one of these days when all I’ve done is sleeping all day. Everybody needs a day like this every now and then. I think I’ve been needing a day like this for a while now and today was the day I took the time to do it. The rest of the night I’m binge-watching season one of Chicago PD. I’m going to bed early and get up bright and early tomorrow morning to get back to my book writing. I just needed a long-awaited me-day.
For dinner today I made my own pizza sauce for the very first time and it turned out so much better than I ever could have imagined. It was so easy to make, and the flavor was amazing. I’m so happy to share this recipe with all of you today. However I did not make the pizza dough myself, I woke up after a long nap and was so hungry, I had a roll-out pizza dough in the fridge so I decided to use that instead of making my own today. But the sauce is made from scratch and is to die for! After adding my sauce to the pizza sauce I sprinkled some mushrooms, canned corn, and cheese on top before putting it into the oven.
Hetty’s pizza sauce Ingredients:
1 Pound ground beef
1 Box canned-crushed tomatoes (400g)
6 TBS Tomato paste
A Pinch of oregano
1 Clove of garlic
1 ts Kosher salt
2 ts Sugar
1 large shallot
1 Tbs butter
How to make Hetty’s pizza sauce:
- Add the butter to an iron skillet. When the butter has melted add in the ground beef. Clean and finely chop up the onion and shallot and add them to the pan. Season with pepper.
- When the ground beef is no longer pink, the onions have a golden color and are soft. Add in+ the tomato paste, the sugar, salt, and the oregano. Let it cook for about 5 minutes.
- Add in the crushed tomatoes, paprika seasoning, and red chili flakes. Let it simmer for about 15 minutes. The sauce is now done and ready for your pizza dough.
Note: You can also use this as a simple and quick pasta sauce if you want to. It’s so easy to make, and the flavors are amazing. A really good Italian sauce perfect for pasta and pizza. I must admit that I was very skeptical about making my own pizza sauce, but now I’m so glad I did and I will never go back to the “I bought” a sauce in the store days of my life.
